Three Mile Harbor

Jeff Ragovin and Kurt Giehl spend quite a bit of time at the Three Mile Harbor location. Jeff is on the board of South Fork Sea Farmers and Kurt is an artist. They are both avid fisherman and love giving back to the community. Maintaining, harvesting and seeding oysters are one of their favorite things to do in the Spring, Summer and Fall months. They call their Oysters "Three Mile Harbor Gems" and soon Kurt will be launching a piece made with pulverized oyster shell where he will be donating 50% of proceeds to the South Fork Sea Farmers.

Oyster Shell On Sintra

KURT GIEHL

The inspiration behind this series was to create motion and movement from a completely static object a block. Comprised of hundreds of individual pieces, these paintings are in constant motion as light, shadows, and the viewer's perspective changes throughout the day. They are textural and angular with a balance of composition that plays with the concept of chance. If you look at the painting long enough, individual blocks begin to move creating an illusion of motion. I have created a special version which includes pulverized oyster shells mixed in the paint. 50% of the proceeds of this piece will be donated to the South Fork Sea Farmers.
